Child Development

EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM - EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation stage is "a regulatory and quality framework for the provision of learning, development and care for children between birth and the academic year in which they turn (0-5)".

Educating your child at pre-school level through creativity and play is an integral part of our curriculum to prepare your little one for their transfer to school. In addition to this, the staff encourage your little one to develop as individuals at their own pace, instilling confidence and enthusiasm.

Confidential records are on file for your child in order to partner with you, the parent, to monitor their progress and contribute to the shared objectives for your child.

The early years curriculum includes the following:

PLAY BASED CURRICULUM

Learning through play with effective adult support helps with the development of your child. Adult input will help your child to develop in a non-threatening environment. Activities include:

Craft, play dough, drama, water sand and malleable materials, pencil control, outside play, musical instruments, stories and mark making (through, paint, water). Creative workshops.

Babies and children under 2

Fully equipped with the latest equipment, each room has its own sleeping facilities and a staff ratio of 1:3 as set out by Ofsted. Our staff are keenly aware of the individual needs of each child and our staff offer lots of expert care and attention.

1-2 year olds are more mobile and their enquiring minds makes them more aware of their surroundings. The Hill Nursery upholds the same quality of care for this age range as it would for the younger babies and we have a wide range of equipment to foster their development.

Children over 2

We follow a curriculum that supports the development of your child in this age bracket. We are committed to careful preparation and planning. On a typical day staff will set up the nursery prior to the children’s arrival so that they can be involved in their choice of activity immediately. The staff adopt a creative and versatile approach. Activities are regularly evaluated with a view to improving your child’s experience.

Educational activities in preparation for their transfer for school is high on the agenda. Each child is encouraged to develop at their own pace.

We also keep a journal for each child to capture those special moments in their development that go unseen by you whilst in our care.
